The Howl includes 12-18 hours of off road biking, running, trekking, bushwhacking, paddling, and navigating. This is a great race to get a feel of what Adventure racing is all about as competitors race throughout the evening. Participants will have plenty of unforgettable memories after experiencing Florida's natural environment.

As per tradition, the racecourse will not be revealed until maps and instructions are distributed just prior to race start. Teams will rely on their navigational skills to get them from checkpoint to checkpoint.

NOTE: There will be three additional events which include a 3- 5 hour adventure race, a 5k, and 10k trail run.

Boating, canoeing, and kayaking along the river are also great ways to see the park. Anglers can fish along the riverbank or from a boat. 1) Are we using your paddles or bringing our own? PFDs?

2) If I understand correctly, we will not be plotting any UTMs and don't need a UTM tool. Correct?

3) Where the main TA/check in be?

4) No smack talk? I guess Manny's not racing.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Hi Will,

1) We will have PFDs, paddles but you can use your own. You will have to schlep your paddles with you after the paddling section. You can make that decision once you receive the maps and instructions.

2) Correct. We will plot the points.

3) The main check in will be UTM 584709E/2985819N (WGS84/NAD83) or Lat 26.99185 Long -80.14628

4) Apparently he has something to do with wedding preparations

Thanks to adventurousconcepts for going thru with the race letting me go solo since teammate had to attend firefighting shift. Like Will said race was definetly a good challenge excellent oportunity for sharpening nav skills.
Im also more familiar now with the JD park features like the fence, the powerlines, the service road/beach by the satelites where i had to push my bike for 45min  , etc .
Liked the twisty creek for paddle section followed by the awesome sunset then midnight run on FFT. Sleep monsters got to me around 4am thou and had to call it.
Looking forward to the next year's race , seems like a long time to wait thou.

On behalf of Penni and myself I would like to say a big thanks to Elias, Gomez and everyone else involved in putting on this race. It was a great course which included some nice challenges. Penni and I were looking forward to the second bike section nut as it was we were stuck in the brush a little too long. I alway feel no matter how you finish it the expriance you bring away which is the most important. Having said that, every bushwack in the future with be compared to the bushwack from OP11 to OP12. Thanks again

Thank you Megan for photographing the Howl!

Howlers,

You can view and purchase Howl photos at http://www.teamracephotos.com/. There are quite a few good ones which would look sweet sitting at the workplace, home shelf, or wall.

Thanks to Elias, Gomez and all the volunteers who worked to put on this year's Howl at the Moon. I enjoyed being there and taking photos of everyone. Sorry I missed taking photos of the sport race. Chasing the elite teams didn't afford much time to catch the sport teams. Next time!
All my photos can be viewed at teamracephotos.com and can be saved right to your computer. I greatly appreciate Mark Miller allowing me to post my pictures on his site so everyone has access to them.
Thanks again for putting on the Howl and keep us posted on the Coast-to-Coast.
FYI: The date has been posted for the Atomic AR in Georgia - it is May 15/16 - and Pangea dates for next year are posted too. We're crossing our fingers the dates won't overlap!
